A Simple Outline Of IoTs Advantages And Disadvantages - 1375 Words

A Simple Outline Of IoT's Advantages And Disadvantages (Essay Sample) Content: Assignment[Student Name Here][Institutions Name Here][Professors Name Here][Date Here]IntroductionIoT is a technology that outlines the integration of devices and objects under common network connections e.g. the internet or IP networks (GSMA, 2014). In general, the Internet of Things (IoT) will increase the accessibility of information which will increase the efficiency of the processes undertaken using it. However, in the process of achieving these benefits, the industry will have to address the issues and challenges the technology faces such as data security and privacy. In light of these outcomes, a simple analysis is presented below on the advantages and disadvantages of IoT-based on the existing systems as well as the anticipated systems of the future.A simple outline of IoTs advantages and disadvantagesAdvantages Disadvantages 1. It encourages the communication of devices i.e. machine to machine comm. 1. In present time it faces compatibility issues 2. Improves decision making process due to the vast information available 2. Moreover, its highly complex to implement 3. Increase system automation and their control 3. Privacy and security concerns 4. IoT also increases monitoring services. 4. Personal safety issues 5. Saves time and money 6. As a result of the efficiencies highlighted, it increases the overall quality of life (Sannapureddy, 2015) (Saxena, 2016)An In-depth analysis:AdvantagesIn the current world, the internet serves millions of people by connecting them to a vast source of information. Now when the supporting devices which are either computers, home accessories and automation system among others are integrated their communication will increase tremendously. Moreover, in this scenario the intermediary systems such servers will be eliminated to enable a direct connection (Internet society, 2015). This outcome will increase the efficiency of the devices since their access to information will be made readily available. Furthermore, their access will be facilitated by a wide range of networks such as IP networks and the most notable of them all the internet. These networks will result in ubiquitous connections that will offer high-speed and low-cost communication. Again, the outcome being improved data analytics, miniaturised systems and advanced economics outcomes.A general analysis of the internet and other information analytic systems reveals one notable service, that of decision making. In essence, people such as managers use information as tools to make better decisions. This information may be in form of experiences recorded and stored in certain technological systems such as the internet. IoT offers the connected devices a wide range of experiences which facilitates their decision-making process. For instance, a refrigeration device will know the action to take when a certain commodity runs out e.g. milk since it has the information to gu ide it in the process. In return, this outcome will trickle down to the users (Arpita, Saxena Bhadra, 2015).Now, consider the end users who have more control as a result of the centralised systems that manage the overall networks. Essentially, IoT will be managed through the wireless infrastructure adopted. This infrastructure is as a result of the physical devices connected using the electrical components such as sensors and actuators. The outcome of these operational mechanisms is increased control and automation where minimal human intervention is used. Moreover, it increases monitoring services because of the central control which further saves on time as well as the resources involved (Sannapureddy, 2015).Finally, as a result of these efficiencies and benefits, the users will have a better quality of life. For instance, simple tasks as shopping will be done automatically based on the specifications set by the users e.g. delivery of dairy products every morning. This outcome am ong many others increases comfort and convenience which facilitates a better life (Saxena, 2016). Furthermore, automated systems that are centrally controlled increase the management of life activities such as driving and doing house chores. Therefore, another substantial benefit of IoT is better management outcomes as already seen today where one can coordinate business activities remotely using e-mails and telephone communication.DisadvantagesAs seen with other technologies in the past, the initial stages of development are usually attributed to compatibility issues due to the lack of standards and operational principles. Today, there are no internationally recognised standards of using the IoT technology, which means there are no rules that govern the way devices/equipment should be tagged and monitored. Therefore, if widely implemented users will have varying results since some devices will fail to integrate with others as some will operate at certain principles for instance com munication frequencies failing to meet the overall objective of integration (RF wireless, 2012). However, this setback is the easiest to overcome. Similar to other international standards, manufacturers will have to establish the necessary protocols to govern the production of electronic systems set for integration in the future. The second disadvantage is that of complexity, particularly when you consider the operational principles and how the devices will be integrated. For one, all systems from users (human) to mobile devices will have some sort of sensors or actuators within them. When successfully integrated a lot of information will be available and considering the current availability, the application of IoT will require vast storage systems as well as analytics (Sannapureddy, 2015). Moreover, consider a daily application of IoT where two people from the same household are connected to their home infrastructure (which is the overall aim). The home system may alert both of a mi ssing commodity such as milk which results in wastage. Therefore, fixing this problem among other complexity issues will serve as the major setback for IoT.Now, to the most considerable challenges faced by information technology i.e. security, privacy and user safety. To date, IT still faces many problems with data security and privacy more so, at a time when people expose their information in different digital environments such as social media. Therefore, in an event where all devices are connected to each other, a valid concern is that of information leakage where one device exposes confidential details about the users to the affiliated devices (Internet society, 2015). IoT will have to assure the users of its ability to secure their data be it through stringent security measures that protect their properties and data streams. Furthermore, these measures will also have to apply to all devices as one poorly protected device could serve as an entry point for intruders which again ou tlines the complexity of the technology. In addition to this, the potential and practicality of IoT depend on the strategies ...

What Does Beatrice’s Language Show About Her Attitudes...

What does Beatrice’s language show about her attitudes towards different men in the two different scenes you have studied? 10th February 2012 Introduction Much ado nothing is a romantic Shakespeare play about two couples of lovers. The play is set in Messina, deep in the heart of Italy and is based in Elizabethan times. The lovers are namely; Claudio and Hero, Bennedick and Beatrice. Claudio is a noble Florentine count from Florence. Bennedick is a war hero from Padua. Both are honourable war heroes fighting for Don Pedro the prince of Aragon. Beatrice is the niece of Leonato the Governor of Messina. At the beginning of the play Don Pedro and his valiant fighters return from the wars to Messina. While at Messina Claudio immediately falls†¦show more content†¦However beneath all this fancy language we can derive that Bennedick was painted all over Beatrice’s thoughts and she cannot resist asking about his well-being. When the messenger states he knows none of that name, Hero her cousin says â€Å"My cousin means Signor Bennedick of Padua† this clearly shows that not only is Bennedick and Beatrice’s thoughts he is also a subject of conversation and discussion between Beatrice and Hero. The way Beatrice speaks seemingly spitefully about Bennedick shows us she is perhaps interested in Bennedick and trying not to arouse the suspicion of the messenger and her uncle. By adding sarcastic comments and insults where Bennedick name appears shows us she is trying hard not to bring out her real feelings for him, the name â€Å"Signor Mountanto† is one of the names Beatrice has devised to insult Bennedick however the fact that the name is so complex in meaning and the inside joke so well thought out shows us she has really thought about this insult and it has not an insult off the top of her head. Beatrice is more devious and careful about relationships than Claudio who seems rather desperate to get with Hero and throw himself headfirst into a relationship that he perhaps knows nothing about. This suggests perhaps she has more experience in love and relationships and has also experienced disappointment and is afraid of it. STEP 3 When Bennedick and Beatrice meet they immediately engage in a fierce verbal battle,

A Childs Dream free essay sample

As I sat in my chair I started sweating, thinking to myself, I can’t mess this up now. Two seconds later I had finally done it. I had been working hours on building a rocket that would take my brave little Kerbals to the Moon. I’m of course referring to the game Kerbal Space Program. It took about two hours but I created a successful lander. I counted down the launch timer â€Å"3†¦2†¦1†¦we have lift-off!† As the rocket climbed high above the Earth I pitched the craft east. After a couple of minutes I was 100,000 meters above the Earth’s surface, and I cut the engines off. Afterwards the engines roared again as the rocket was pushed into a circular orbit around Earth. Once this milestone was achieved I took a deep breath, and reassured myself â€Å"Alright, you’re halfway there.† I then aligned with the Moon and burned the engines until I would be captured in an orbit around it. We will write a custom essay sample on A Childs Dream or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page After much anticipated waiting I was in the Moon’s sphere of influence. I waited even longer until I was closest to the surface, and fired the engines at full blast against my trajectory. The rocket was in an orbit around the Moon. Later I picked a landing spot, and decelerated until I would be moments away from the impending surface of the gray placid moon. As I got closer the rocky surface I muttered to myself â€Å"Please don’t mess it all up now.† After careful planning and execution I successfully landed on the Moon. As the brave little Kerbals stepped onto the desolate surface they marveled at its majesty. The view of Earth was awe inspiring and one of a kind from the gray rocky surface. I almost couldn’t move I was so in shock. I had many emotions during this period, I was proud, ecstatic, and most notably in awe as my mouth dropped to the floor. The Kerbals hopped around admiring the sights of the dead moon, and of course planted the flag of scien ce nearby the lander module. It was blue, with the cycles of the Moon across it. After collecting priceless data and Moon rocks the three of the Kerbals jumped back in the capsule. As they got comfortable I pushed the pushed the rocket off with a small burn. Afterwards I fired up the engines until in a circular orbit around the Moon. I burned the engines until out of the Moon’s sphere of influence and then found myself in a quite large orbit around the Earth. But I found that I was on a reentry course with the Earth. Now the Kerbals were as good as home, all they had to do now was sit back and watch the show. Earth crept up into view and the proud Kerbals felt excited because they knew they would finally be going home. After what seemed like hours the shuttle reentered the atmosphere and exploded in a ball of fire falling from the sky. It looked like a meteor shower with all of the fire falling from the stratosphere. The shuttle fell from the heavens and finally the parachute opened, and the craft floated to the ground slowly. Later they landed in a remote area in the middle of the ocean near a small island. Everyone made it home safely. â€Å"Finally!† I said in exasperation. Breathing heavily at the time I wiped the sweat that seemed to be pouring from my forehead. But the test was over, and I knew from that moment in history that I would do anything it takes to become the next Carl Sagan. I knew that I wanted to study the cosmos and observable universe not only for personal gain, but for the entire human race.

Ohm and Ohm’s Law Essay Sample free essay sample

Ohm’s jurisprudence is a jurisprudence of natural philosophies. It states that in an electrical music director the ratio of possible difference ( electromotive force ) to current is changeless. For illustration. if the terminuss of an electric battery are connected to an electric lamp and the electromotive force end product of the battery is so decreased by 20 per centum. the sum of current fluxing through the lamp will besides be reduced by 20 per centum. Ohm’s jurisprudence was derived by experimentation by German physicist Georg Simon Ohm in 1826. It is expressed by the undermentioned equation: V=I x R In this equation V represents the possible difference between one terminal of the music director and the other ( that is. the electromotive force applied to the music director ) ; and R is called theoppositionof the music director. IfVoltis given in Vs andIis given in amperes.Roentgenwill be in ohms ( Crandall. 2004 ) . The jurisprudence offers a simple method of ciphering the electromotive force. Cu and wolfram ) in is comparatively low. High currents will heat a metallic music director and do its opposition to alter. so that the ratio of electromotive force to current in the music director will besides alter. Ohm’s Law holds for a complete direct-current circuit every bit good as for any portion of the circuit. provided thatIis the entire current flowing between the points across which the electromotive force.Volt. is measured ( Leroy. 2003 ) . In alternating-current circuits. Ohm’s Law seldom is valid because the current flow is affected non merely by opposition but besides by factors known asinductionandelectrical capacity. Furthermore. the equation called Ohm’s jurisprudence is non one of the cardinal rules of natural philosophies. as are Newton’s Torahs of gesture and the conservation-of-energy rule. Yet Ohm’s jurisprudence has been considered of import plenty to be included in the natural philosophies course of study of pupils for more than one hundred old ages. When Ohm presented his thought. it was received with contempts. Ohm. at the age of 38. has served for 10 old ages as a poorly paid mathematics and scientific discipline instructor at the Jesuit College of Cologne. To measure up for a university place. he was required to bring forth some sort of scientific chef-doeuvre. the value of which would convey acknowledgment and university occupation offers. After many old ages of experimenting with electricity. during which clip he published legion short documents. Ohm produced a 250-page manuscript entitledMathematical Measurements of Electrical Current( Silver. 1998 ) . The paper was ignored by most of Ohm’s German co-workers. One critic who did non disregard it said. â€Å"A physicist who professed such unorthodoxies was unworthy to learn scientific discipline. † Ohm. unluckily. had presented his work at a clip and topographic point where experiment was disdained as a agency of geting cognition. He did non have a university place and even had to vacate from the Jesuit College. After six blue old ages. King Ludwig I of Bavaria helped Ohm obtain a chair at the Polytechnic School of Nuremberg. Ohm finally received acknowledgment for his work. In 1841. he was awarded the Copley Medal by the Royal Society of London. and in 1842 he was honoured as the Society’s most distinguished foreign member. Furthermore. Ohm’s jurisprudence provides a nice working definition for mensurating the opposition of an ohmic device. The definition does non. nevertheless. give us a good sense of what causes some objects to hold higher oppositions than others. An object’s opposition depends on belongingss of the object including among other things its dimensions and the type of stuff of which it is made ( Everdell. 1998 ) . For illustration. scientists have determined that the electrical opposition of cylindrical objects is straight relative to their lengthLiterand reciprocally relative to their cross-sectional countryA: Roentgen=PLiter A The proportionally changelessP( rho ) is called the object’sresistively; it depends on the type of stuff of which it is made and on its temperature. The equation above seems sensible. The longer an object is. the more hard it is for charge to traverse it ( like H2O that must go a long distance along a incline that has really little disposition ) . Besides. opposition additions as an object’s cross-sectional country lessenings because few electric charges are available to go through the little cross subdivision. The electric resistancePof a stuff depends in intrinsic belongingss of that type of stuff. such as the figure of negatrons per unit volume that are able to travel and the hinderance these negatrons experience as they travel through the stuff. Copper has low electric resistance because of its big concentration of free negatrons and the comparative deficiency of hinderance experienced by the negatrons while traveling through the Cu. On the other manus. the electric resistance of glass is about 1020times greater than that of Cu because it contains so few free negatrons ( Hook. 2002 ) . Copper is an illustration of a stuff called an electrical music director ( low electric resistance ) whereas glass is an illustration of an electricaldielectric( high electric resistance that prohibits the flow of electricity ) . The conductionOof a substance is the opposite of its electric resistance (O= 1/p) . Therefore. a stuff with low electric resistance has high conduction and is a good music direct or of electricity. and frailty versa. Mention:

Using Animals in Research is Not Justified essays

Using Animals in Research is Not Justified essays According to Baldwin Elizabeths report the population of chimpanzees has drastically come down from 2,000,000 to 150,000 chimpanzees. On the similar lines, number of rabbits has declined from 3,000,000,000 to mere 1,500,000. Today, millions of animals are used in research, because of which not only chimpanzees and rabbits population are dropping down, but also other animals like dogs, mice, sharks, pigs, etceteras population are dropping down. In the United States, in many cases of Scientific Research, animals are used to test out specific products that are yet to become consumer products; usually the testing is for other medical purposes. There is a recurring argument of whether or not using animals in research is justified. Many people, usually scientists believe that animal testing is justified. However, I beg to differ because humans and animals are too different to make animal research any useful for humans, animal testing is cruel and unjustified, and animals too have moral rights. The reason for first argument has been rightly explained by Kowalski Kathiann, according to whose article, thousands of chimpanzees bred in the 1980s for AIDS research because 98 percent of chimpanzees have same DNA that humans have. However, researchers discovered that, unlike humans, chimpanzees do not develop AIDS, when they are infected with the HIV virus. Even animals whose DNA is similar to humans are not reliable test subjects because they may not react the same way. Similarly, the injectable contraceptive Depro-Provera was banned in the U.S over 20 years ago on the basis that it caused cancer in dogs and baboons, but recently that ban has been lifted because it was discovered that Depro-Provera did not cause cancer in humans. I, like most people, am also against practices of using animals to determine if cosmetic products are harmful. The negative publicity and consumer pressure surrounding these p...

Free Market Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Free Market - Essay Example It has been highly controversial whether free market is suitable for the present world economy. It is still unknown which economic policy would solve the fundamental economic problems of the present economy. It is time to analyze whether the concept of mixed economy would find success in this present world. It is again controversial up to what extent the governmental regulation must be allowed in a mixed economy. Moreover, it is also important to review the amount of access of free market and its validity and significance in the present world economy. It will be useful if we analyze the concepts of Adam Smith and Milton Friedman and the opposition of Keynes and Karl Marx in the context of the present world economy. Adam Smith advocated the concepts of free market and explained in his work An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations the mechanism that he believed being operated in the economic society. According to Adam Smith, individuals strive to attain wealth by aiming only on their personal gain. These individuals however cannot consume everything that they produce and has to share it with others who value it and pay the price for it. So the public interests of the society can be satisfied by this system of division of labor and free market. Smith, the father of economics, have authored the invisible hand which is able to explain all sorts of economic phenomena in all fields. The book has included the valuable views of Adam Smith about free market. Adam Smith explained the concept and told that businessmen or entrepreneurs always aim for the best profit and consumers always do aim for the lowest price. Consumer choice thus would become the force that influences the price in the market. Consumers would demonstrate their demand or negligence towards products that appear in the market. These consumer demand or pressure would thus encourage entrepreneurs or producers to invest more on the same product and bring more of them into the markets. T hus it is nothing but the consumer demand that pressurize the producers to invest their money into the profitable industry. Thus industry brings the most demanded goods to the markets and consumers also receive their favorable products, thereby resulting in the general economic well being of the society. Adam Smith considered this market-based system as a great advantage as people are forced to respond (producers) according to the want and demands of other people. Free market is the concept in which price is regulated by the corresponding demand or supply. Trade and business would be completely voluntary in free market concept without any interference from force, rule or fraud. In a free market system, the theory of supply and demand would rule the economy bringing the prices of the products towards a typical equilibrium state that would balance the demand and the supply. Another major advocate of free market system is Milton Friedman. He opined that that there is a close and direct relationship between economic freedom and economic growth. Milton Friedman, the American economist (famous for his macro and microeconomics) was of the opinion that free markets would challenge and destroy away political centralization and political control completely. In his book, Capitalism and Freedom he mentioned that the role of a government in free market economy is to maintain political and social freedom. Freidman highly supported free market concept and explained several of its advantages. According to him, â€Å"The most important single central fact about a free market is that no exchange takes place unless both parties benefit.† He opined that the one and only way to get a lot of people cooperate together jointly is through free market. Advanced financial reporting and regulation Essay

Advanced financial reporting and regulation - Essay Example The important characteristic of intangibles is that they lack physical substance. It is very difficult to estimate the value of intangibles and there is a high degree of uncertainty regarding the length of time over which they will provide future benefits. IAS 38 clarifies that intangibles should not be recorded as other assets. Also this standard does not apply to intangible held for sale in the normal course of business of the entity. Similarly differed tax assets, leases, assets arising from employee benefits, financial assets, mineral rights, and other exploration and evaluation assets, and most importantly goodwill arising from business combinations do not fall the preview of IAS 38. The identifiable assets should be separable. The entity is in a position to sell, transfer, and license, rent or exchanges the intangibles. It is important to note that intangibles should be clearly distinguishable and controlled separately from the goodwill. Such identifiable intangibles may have arisen from contractual or other legal rights, whether those are transferable or not, or separable from the entity or other rights and obligations. The initial accounting for intangible is largely dependent on whether they are purchased or developed internally. When intangibles are purchased from others, they are initially recorded at their cost. The amount capitalized will include the purchase price and, like other assets, costs of preparing them for their intended uses. As a result, costs of registration or legal fees related to acquisition are also capitalized. When intangibles are purchased in a business combination, the cost to be recognized is the fair value at acquisition. When intangibles are acquired free of cost or received as a grant, the fair value or nominal value and directly attributable costs of such intangibles is recognized. All other costs of intangibles are charged to revenue. Internally generated intangibles are not recognized as

Victorian audience Essay Example for Free

Victorian audience Essay The concept of red herrings is to create a lead or breakthrough in a case for the detective. These have been cleverly devised into the hound of the Baskervilles as there is one clearly visible in London at the beginning. This is the suspecting of Barrymore, Sir Charles butler. The true criminal poses as Barrymore while in London leading Holmes and company to believe that Barrymore is the criminal. Barrymore is later proved to be not guilty. The effects red herrings have on the audience are devastating because it leaves the reader thinking the criminal is going to be harder to catch than the detectives think. We expect to read about a seemingly perfect crime in detective fiction because otherwise it wouldnt be as tension-building or suspense-filling. The seemingly perfect crime in along came a spider is the kidnap of two celebrity kids and the robbery of a million dollar ransom. In hound of the Baskervilles it would be the murder of Sir Henry and Sir Charles Baskerville and announcement that the criminal is an heir to the family fortune his father never received by using an old family curse. The detective genre is being challenged in this book by the gothic genre as the incorporation of a hellhound is less reminiscent of the detective genre. The description of the hell hound backs up a point that it is a more gothic idea as it says, Big, black beast. This refers to the gothic genre as black is heavily associated with the gothic genre and beasts are more reminiscent of darker genres such as the gothic genre. A mysterious atmosphere is essential in a detective novel because it adds tension and suspense. This is through the way it is portrayed as mysterious, very little known and secretive. Conan Doyle uses layer upon layer of description on the moor when Watson first sees it. A tinge of melancholy lay upon the countryside. This quotation evidences his use of description for the moor. He also uses powerful adjectives to describe certain features of the moor such as, Jagged and sinister hills. This quotation conjures a sense of coldness and makes the reader feel unwelcome to the sudden change of scenery. The seemingly perfect crime sees Stapleton as the villain through out the story. However no one suspects him but Holmes and this is revealed when Holmes is found by Watson. Conan Doyle presents Stapleton as a poor yet clever man in the hound of the Baskervilles. The usage of certain words provokes this idea: dressed in a grey suit and a straw hat. He compares, to other villains of the detective genre, very secretive and as unsusceptible as can be. This is shown by the way he hides his past life to everyone, but he only tells them he lost money with the school he had. Other villains would either make themselves known but be hard to catch, or secret but leading the detective towards them and finally slipping up somewhere along the line. It links to the implication of justice always prevailing because in the end the criminal is nearly always caught. The role of miss. Stapleton as an accomplice would have been quite normal to a Victorian audience. This is because women were considered the weaker gender and men bossed around women. Conan Doyle is linking these ideas on the role of women through the use of miss. Stapleton in the book. Miss. Stapleton, when found at the end, is shown to have been beaten if not carrying out orders by Stapleton and left alone if obeying Stapleton. Oh, this villain! See how he has treated me! she shot her arms out from her sleeves, and we saw with horror that they were all mottled with bruises. This is evidence that Stapleton beat his wife. Most detective fiction is expected to be formed around the idea of who dunnit? This is true in along came a spider as Alex Cross tries to find a villain after another villain. However in hound of the Baskervilles it isnt the case as Holmes and Watson are also saving Sir Henry from an untimely death. You would expect the idea of who dunnit? to be the centre theme around the story, creating tension and suspense fitting for it. This makes Holmes seem heroic, Holmes had emptied five barrels of his revolver into the creatures flank. I think the hound of the Baskervilles is very sensational novels within the detective genre because it is where Holmes and Watson meet a foe worthy of there steel. I think the mysterious atmosphere is particularly effective because it creates the tension and suspense it needs to create and it holds secrets, leaving the question in your mind, Whats it hiding? also I think the mysterious atmosphere is effective because of its unique base for the whole of the story. No literary figure has a stronger hold on the public imagination than Sherlock Holmes. This is shown in the essay.

Technology: Friend or Foe? :: essays research papers

Technology is defined by dictionary.com as â€Å"The application of science, especially to industrial or commercial objectives† Determining whether this technology has helped or hindered our society, we must remember that it is not limited to computers and the internet. Technology has had a variety of faces over the last several thousand years of human existence. As man began to understand more and more about his environment, he began to use that knowledge to accomplish a practical purpose.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  We know from history books and stories passed from generation to generation that man gradually improved things as he discovered them. This is true from the invention of the wheel to the ancient Egyptians great pyramids. Had they not discovered the technology to accomplish these things, our American way of life would be vastly different today. The wheel led to the horse drawn carriage, which led Henry Ford to invent the automobile and the assembly line. Ford's Model T, the only auto Ford produced from 1910 to 1927, not only outsold every other car made for much of its product life, it outsold all the myriad other cars sold in the U.S. combined*. From those two inventions alone, a great improvement in travel and productivity was accomplished, not to mention the money. Today, we still manufacture automobiles and many other things in an assembly line due to its efficiency and effectiveness. Modern technology has robots to reduce the number of human operators required. Computer controls enhance the precision of the machinery used in these assembly lines to reduce flaws. This process continues to improve, but there are side effects.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Will Smith, a corporate trainer in the IT industry with 15 years experience said that â€Å"Without technology, many Americans would be without work today. The advancement of computers and the internet has created far more opportunities for new kinds of jobs. My company would not exist without it. Computers do fail, creating the job of pc repair for thousands, if not millions of people. Anytime you use equipment to improve things you need someone to maintain it, and therefore jobs are created.† The question was then posed, â€Å"What negative effects, if any, do you see resulting from the widespread use of technology?†. Mr Smith replied, â€Å"The internet in particular has encouraged laziness among many people. It also causes people to withdraw from social interaction because they can do everything they need from their home.

Broken Family After The Second Divorce - 1225 Words

For twenty years, divorce has been an untiring topic, furnishing at least one part of my brain at all times. When I take the time to sit down and dissect it, though, I can’t translate the signaling neurons into keystrokes. I can’t justify growing up believing love is a temporary fix, or that later I proclaimed the title of Broken Family after the second divorce. I can’t rationalize the polarization of my allegiance to the two halves of my whole. I can’t articulate how it feels to be passed back and forth from house to house like a talking stick at a self-help meeting or a pre-teen campfire setting. But a talking stick gives one power - power whose only foundation is the imagination of the involved parties - but power nonetheless. That’s†¦show more content†¦I questioned the integrity of a marriage, the respectfulness of this town, and the character of my own parents. I grew up thinking that my three parents were perfect, almost as if they w ere godly. Their inhuman semblance flickered out as the rumors distanced me from these beloved-turned-betrayers. Even so, I still took sides - as children of divorce frequently do. My allegiance to one parent after the first divorce suddenly became unstable during the second. Favoritism remained throughout the second separation, but the rumors shadowing my family imbedded themselves so deeply that I couldn’t feel safe in my loyalty to any of my three parents. Instead, I demoted my relationship with the first parent to one of superficiality and toleration, maintained the preexisting distance with the second parent, and dissolved all communication with the third. In my aloneness, I grieved for my second chance of unity that failed unequivocally. Growing up in a family that was very familiar with courtrooms, I sought validation for love and lifelong promises.
